Artist's biography: Kristin Hatland was born and grew up in Norway where her foundation education took place. Since then she has graduated with a Dip. in Comp. Graphic Design followed by a Bachelor of Applied Arts - Visual (BAA) with a focus on photography. She has spent a few years in Scotland and England and is now sharing her time between New Zealand and Norway. She is most involved with the abstract idea that is the human condition; “this is primarily approached from the viewpoint of the individual”. She started her journey into finding and defining her definition of art with an inquisition into philosophy. She goes on to say; “for me to create art, it was necessary to define what art is, at least for myself". She employs her definition to filter every idea that she feel motivated to undertake in an artmaking situation. Moreover, If her idea fails to clear the hurdles, then the idea must either be modified, or abandoned until such time that she can modify the idea to fulfill her definition.
